ABSTRACT

The experiment was conducted at Ghior and Saturia upazilas under Manikganj district during December, 2018 to March, 2019 to fix-up the targeted plant population for confirmation of better yield of wheat. To full-fill the set objectives five seed rate such as 60kgha-1, 80 kgha-1, 100 kgha-1, 120 kgha-1 and 140 kgha-1, respectively were considered as treatments. In both of the locations, due to differences of plat population the significant variations were observed in terms of plant height, number of total tiller hill-1, number of effective tiller hill-1, panicle length, number of grain panicle-1, 1000-grain weight, grain yield and straw yield of wheat. Results revealed that100 kgha-1 seed rate produced the highest grain and straw yield (2.45 tha-1, 2.48 tha-1 and 4.37 tha-1, 4.52 tha-1) at Ghior and Saturia upazila, respectively. The lowest grain and straw yield (1.75 tha-1, 1.78 tha-1) were in 60 kgha-1 seed rate at Ghior, whereas 3.15 tha-1 in 60 kgha-1 and 3.31 tha-1 in 140 kgha-1 seed rate at Saturia upazila respectively. The study finally concluded that excessive plant populations did not confirm the highest yield of wheat, rather the optimum/desired plant population ensured the targeted yield of wheat at Manikganj district of Bangladesh.
