ABSTRACT Availability of seed is one of the major problems for jute cultivation in Bangladesh. Several factors affect the seed quality and yield of jute including seed sowing time. To select the best sowing time, a field experiment was conducted at the Jute Agriculture Experimental Station (JAES), Manikganj, Bangladesh during February to December, 2018. Three jute vegetable variety viz. BJRI deshi pat shak-1, BJRI deshi pat shak-2 and BJRI deshi pat shak-3 were taken for this study and seeds were sown in the first week of March, June and September. Results showed that seeds sown at June had the higher plant population (132.3), plant height (36.58 cm) and seed yield (847.1 g) as compared sowed in March and September. However, higher branching and pods were found when the seeds sowed in March. Results also revealed that BJRI deshi pat shak-2 produced the highestl seed yield compare to the rest two tested varieties.
